Emmy Award-winning host Chancy Glover has died
Los Angeles: Emmy award-winning host Chancy Glover has died unexpectedly at the age of 39.
Chauncey joined the KCAL news anchor team in October 2023 after spending eight years in Houston as KTRK’s first black male evening anchor. Although his love for journalism caught him at a young age, Chauncey always focused on the communities he served, either through his storytelling or his work.
Glover won Emmys with WDIV in 2013 and 2014 for outstanding on-camera skills, live reporting and spot newscasts. After his time in Detroit, he spent eight years in Houston and then joined KCAL in Los Angeles.
The three-time Emmy Award-winning journalist began his professional career at WTVM News in Columbus, Georgia. At just 5 years old, Chauncey’s father built a small anchor desk for the newscasts he would present to his family every Sunday after church in his hometown of Athens, Alabama. Before joining KCAL in California, Chauncey worked in Florida, Georgia, Michigan and Texas.
Chauncey had a passion for drama, appearing in several national and off-Broadway plays. One of his proudest moments was when he was asked to sing at the funeral of the late civil rights activist Rosa Parks in Montgomery, Alabama. Chancey has traveled the country as a motivational speaker, hoping to inspire the next generation of journalists.
“As we mourn this profound loss, we are comforted by the outpouring of love and memories shared by those who knew Chauncey as a passionate and talented soul,” the family wrote. “We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn and honor his incredible legacy. He was taken from us too soon, but his impact will be felt forever.”
