Empowering Da’is: Combating Online Gambling in Indonesia Through Digital Literacy
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, praised da’is (Islamic preachers) for their crucial role in fighting online gambling. She stated that da’is help protect the public by raising awareness of the dangers associated with online gambling from religious, moral, and social viewpoints.
At an event hosted by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in North Jakarta, Hafid encouraged da’is to actively address online gambling in their sermons. She emphasized that da’is are essential in educating people about the negative impacts of gambling.
Hafid pointed out that the digital space has both positive and harmful content, including online gambling. She urged da’is to use religious teachings effectively in their preaching to support government efforts to combat addiction to gambling.
In her address, Hafid stressed the importance of presenting religious messages in a relatable and engaging way to connect with a broader audience. She also mentioned that the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs will continue to invest in improving the digital skills of Islamic clerics. This initiative will help them share religious messages and combat online gambling effectively.
Hafid affirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing the digital literacy of da’is to enable them to counter online gambling threats to Indonesia.
