Empowering Families and Classrooms: Nomura Holdings and FEEPO Unite to Bring Interactive Financial Literacy to Parents, Children, and Schools

Empowering Families and Classrooms: Nomura Holdings and FEEPO Unite to Bring Interactive Financial Literacy to Parents, Children, and Schools

September 17, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Business

The Japan Financial and Economic Education Promotion Organization (J-FLEC, Chairman: Ando Satoshi) and Nomura Holdings, Inc. (Representative Executive Officer and Group CEO: Okuda Kentaro) in collaboration with NTT DOCOMO, INC. (Representative Director and President: Maeda Yoshiaki) and Benesse Corporation (Representative Director and President: Kobayashi Jin) will host an experiential financial education event (the “Event”) titled “Learn about Money for Parents and Children” and “Learn about Money at School” at KABUTO ONE HALL & CONEFERENCE on Sunday, October 20, with the aim of improving the financial literacy of children who will lead the next generation.

It is said that only 7% of people in Japan believe they have received financial and economic education (Financial Literacy Survey 2022 by the Central Council for Financial Information), and there are growing calls for financial and economic education and opportunities to improve financial literacy. Nomura Holdings began providing financial and economic education in the 1990s and has been working to improve financial literacy through on-site classes at schools and employee seminars in the workplace. With the establishment of J-FLEC, we believe that expectations will increase for the promotion of financial and economic education for a wide range of age groups and positions by the public and private sectors.

Nomura Holdings and J-FLEC believe that improving financial literacy will help children who will lead the next generation realize the future they desire and increase their future options. In the “home” and “school” that support and nurture children, parents and teachers have said, “I have never been educated about money,” and “I am worried about how to teach them.” This event was planned with the aim of deepening thoughts with participants through each session and program on “how to interact with children and prepare them for society, and how to create learning opportunities.” In partnership with NTT Docomo and Benesse, both of which support the purpose of this event, we will provide learning opportunities for children who will lead the next generation and the parents and teachers who support them.
