Empowering Ghana’s Future: ECOWAS Commission Unites Political Actors and Stakeholders in Crucial Training Ahead of 2024 General Elections

Promoting⁢ Peaceful Elections in Ghana

ECOWAS ​and ⁣National Peace Council Collaborate on Peaceful ‍Elections in Ghana

The Department of Political ‍Affairs, Peace and Security of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) ‌has partnered with the National Peace Council of Ghana to‌ organize an interactive training workshop‍ for political actors and stakeholders in Ghana.

The‌ workshop,‍ which took place from ⁢September 4 to 11, 2024, aimed to equip participants with⁣ knowledge on ‍the principles of ECOWAS constitutional convergence‍ and other frameworks that ⁤govern transparent ​and peaceful conduct.

The event​ provided ⁤a platform ⁢for structured ‍dialogue between representatives of‍ political parties, security agencies, the ⁤Electoral ‌Commission (EC), ‌and civil‌ society organizations (CSOs) on matters relating to the organization and conduct ​of the next ‌general elections ⁤on December 7, 2024.

Participants ⁤had the opportunity to acquire practical techniques and skills in dialogue and mediation, essential tools for⁢ managing‍ electoral conflicts ‍and disputes, through group discussions, ⁢role-playing, and simulation exercises.

Key ‌Stakeholders in Attendance

The workshop was ⁢attended by representatives from the National Peace Council, the Electoral Commission, political parties, security agencies, the ​Christian Council, the Office⁢ of the National Grand ⁣Imam, ‌the ⁣National House of Chiefs, ‍as⁤ well as civil society organizations, including youth and women groups, and media.

The Commissioner ‍for Political Affairs, Peace​ and​ Security, Ambassador (Dr) ‌Abdel-Fatau Musah,‍ represented by⁤ Mr. Ebenezer Samedi,⁣ Head of Democracy and Good Governance, emphasized‌ ECOWAS’s commitment to promoting dialogue as an essential‌ tool for managing ‍stakeholders’ expectations about electoral processes.

The ⁤representative of⁢ the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Ms Florence Mensah, welcomed the partnership between ECOWAS ⁤and the ‌National Peace Council, stressing the Electoral Commission’s ‌preparation to organize ‌free, fair, peaceful, and inclusive‍ elections.
