Empowering Women: The Race to Leadership Success in Today’s Workforce
Cassandre Beaugrand dominated the 2024 season, winning four gold medals in four races. With the Championship Series, Finals, Olympic Games, and Continental Championships influencing the quest for the world title, season stories thrived among 104 women from 38 countries.
The 2024 race season faced a key challenge in March when severe storms canceled the WTCS Abu Dhabi opener. This left athletes with a two-month gap before the WTCS Yokohama event. Competitors scrambled to find races for early season preparation, while Weihai, China, was added to the Series in September.

Excitement built for the WTCS Yokohama on May 11. Despite top-ranked athletes like Beth Potter and Cassandre Beaugrand being elsewhere, Leonie Periault earned her first Series gold with a stellar performance. Taylor Knibb took silver, followed by Emma Lombardi. Flora Duffy, returning since 2022, finished 7th, igniting talks of her Olympic defense.
Intense Competition in Cagliari
By late May in Cagliari, pressure mounted on key athletes like Beaugrand, Potter, and Tertsch. In a gripping finish, Beaugrand showcased her power by winning her first Olympic-distance Series race. Periault, the series leader, placed 26th, and no US competitors made the top 10.
Beaugrand Shines in Hamburg
At the Hamburg event, all main contenders were present. Cassandre Beaugrand performed impressively, winning her second consecutive gold with an 11-second lead. Tertsch followed for silver, solidifying her status as a title contender just weeks before the Olympics.
Olympic Glory in Paris
In her home Olympics, Beaugrand excelled under pressure, taking gold with an outstanding performance. She finished strong, with Julie Derron earning silver and Beth Potter taking bronze. Beaugrand extended her lead in the world rankings, accumulating more crucial points.
Tertsch Triumphs in Weihai
Following her Olympic heartache, Lisa Tertsch excelled in Weihai. She led the race, outpacing top competitors like Potter and Georgia-Taylor Brown to claim her first Series gold. Her performance propelled her to third place in the overall rankings, just behind Potter.
Finals Decision
Entering the Finals, Beaugrand led, but faced pressure from past experiences. After a shaky start in the swim, she recovered and caught the pack, positioning herself well. She dominated the running segment, securing gold and the world title with a remarkable 40-second lead over Potter.
Beaugrand reflected, “I wanted this world title so badly. Last year I was disappointed finishing second. Nobody can take this away from me now.”
