Empowering Future Generations: Yomiuri Shimbun’s SDGs Outreach Lecture
The Yomiuri Shimbun Western Headquarters recently collaborated with Izumi City and KYT to launch the “Kyushu-Yamaguchi Future Forest – Let’s Learn Together About the SDGs Project.” As part of this initiative, a lecturer from the Yomiuri Shimbun’s “Power of the Newspaper” committee visited Yonezu East Elementary School in Izumi City to educate students about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Lecturer Akihiko Hamada emphasized the significance of the SDGs, explaining that they comprise 17 rules and goals designed to ensure people worldwide can live happily and in harmony. The students listened intently as Hamada discussed the importance of the SDGs and the pressing issue of global food shortages.
The lecture sparked a sense of determination among the students, with one child expressing their desire to “work hard to achieve the 17 goals.” Another student shared their personal commitment to reducing food waste, stating, “We try not to leave any food behind in our daily lives, so we don’t waste food.”
This outreach lecture provided a valuable opportunity for the students to engage with the SDGs and develop a deeper understanding of their role in creating a more sustainable future.
