Nabil Bentaleb has received an offer to extend his contract with Lille OSC, as his current agreement with the club is set to expire in June 2026. The midfielder has become a central figure in the team’s tactical setup, prompting the club to move toward securing his future amid interest from other Ligue 1 competitors.

The contract situation comes at a critical juncture for the 31-year-old international, who has established himself as an indispensable part of manager Bruno Génésio’s system. During the current campaign, Bentaleb has recorded 25 appearances, contributing two goals and two assists while maintaining a high level of activity in the midfield.

Bentaleb’s tenure at Lille has been marked by significant personal and professional challenges. In June 2024, the player suffered a cardio-respiratory accident. According to reporting from La Gazette du Fennec, Lille provided substantial support to the midfielder following the incident, which facilitated his eventual return to professional competition.

More recently, Bentaleb faced a brief setback after being sidelined for three matches. The absence was the result of a minor operation required to treat an infection. He returned to training on May 7, 2026, following a three-week period away from the pitch.

The impact of his absence was noted in the team’s recent form. Without Bentaleb in the midfield, Lille struggled to maintain consistency, recording draws against OGC Nice (0-0) and Le Havre (1-1), though they did secure a 1-0 victory over Paris FC.

Bentaleb returned to action during a match against AS Monaco at the Stade Louis-II, where he entered the game as a substitute. His return coincided with a 1-0 victory for the club, a result that keeps Lille in contention for a high finish in the league standings.

The club is now focused on a decisive match against AJ Auxerre on May 17, 2026. This fixture is viewed as a finale to determine whether Lille can secure direct qualification for the UEFA Champions League. Bentaleb is expected to start the match, tasked with helping the team validate their ticket to the competition.

While Lille seeks to retain the midfielder, other prominent French clubs are monitoring the situation. Reporting from But Football Club indicates that Olympique de Marseille, Olympique Lyonnais and Stade Rennais are all potential competitors for Bentaleb’s signature should he choose not to extend his stay at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Bentaleb is not the only key player facing a contract expiration at the end of the season; teammate Aïssa Mandi is also seeing his deal reach its term in June 2026.

Beyond the club level, manager Bruno Génésio has advocated for Bentaleb’s return to the international stage. Génésio has praised the midfielder’s importance to the game and stated that Bentaleb, who has earned 57 caps, deserves to be reintegrated into the Algerian national team as the 2026 World Cup approaches.
