Endless Surf and Flowstate have formed a strategic partnership to launch The Mixtape, an artificial intelligence system that allows surfers of different ability levels to share a single wave pool session while receiving customized waves tailored to their personal preferences.
The technology pairs Endless Surf’s programmable pneumatic wave generation with Flowstate’s AI-powered computer vision and automated media platform. Developed over nearly two years, the system is designed to eliminate the traditional compromise where groups of friends or family members must either book separate sessions or settle for a single wave type dictated by the machine. Instead, individual surfers select their preferred wave settings before entering the water, and Flowstate identifies them in real time as they approach the takeoff area.
“The Mixtape brings together the two most advanced technologies in their respective fields to make an already unique Endless Surf experience even more personalized,” Endless Surf president Paul Chutter said. “Surfers can share long rides with their friends and family while each getting the wave they want, and operators gain an entirely new session product they can offer their guests.”
Operating without wearables, RFID tags, or manual controls, the system relies entirely on computer vision to match incoming surfers with the appropriate wave settings generated by Endless Surf’s Swell Studio software. Flowstate CEO Luke Wallace noted that the software removes the traditional boundaries of session scheduling. “Surfing with friends or family usually means everyone needs to want the same type of wave, or you end up surfing separate sessions,” Wallace said. “The Mixtape changes that.”
Integration and Future Applications at Surf Parks
Flowstate’s software will integrate directly with Endless Surf’s existing digital ecosystem, which includes Surf Concierge, Swell Studio, and Wave Doctor. The partners plan to install the technology in future Endless Surf lagoons to optimize camera positioning and automated media capture. Future updates for the platform will incorporate automated multi-angle video capture, AI-driven coaching and progression tools, and operational analytics for surf park operators.
The rollout arrives as the artificial wave industry continues to expand globally. Endless Surf’s pneumatic caisson technology—which uses compressed air chambers along the back wall of a lagoon to displace water and generate ocean-like waves roughly every 10 seconds without submerged mechanical plows—power facilities such as O2 SURFTOWN MUC near Munich, which opened in August 2024. Meanwhile, competing technologies such as Wavegarden lagoons continue to launch across North America, including the upcoming DSRT Surf project in Palm Desert, highlighting an increasingly competitive market for wave pool infrastructure and software innovation.
