Discharge Violation and Appeal
Energoaqua is accused of violating the Water Act by discharging wastewater in contravention of its permit, according to inspectors from the Czech Environmental Inspection Authority (ČIŽP). The company is disputing the decision and has filed an appeal with the Ministry of the Environment, as stated by ČIŽP spokeswoman Miriam Loužecká on Monday.
As of December 15, 2025, the decision remains non-final pending the Ministry’s review.
Connection to 2020 Bečva River Poisoning
The current case stems from a referral to the inspectorate following the court’s final decision regarding the poisoning of the Bečva River in September 2020. While Energoaqua was initially implicated, the court determined that the specific culprit of the poisoning could not be identified.
Consequently, the court ruled that Energoaqua could not be held criminally responsible for the incident. Novinky.cz reported that the Regional Court confirmed this acquittal.
Acquittal and Administrative Proceedings
Oldřich Havelka, the director of Energoaqua, was also acquitted by the court. Despite this, the ČIŽP initiated administrative proceedings against the company in may of this year, leading to the current violation notice.
