England’s Lionesses are set to share a £1.7 million bonus pot if they successfully defend their European Championship title this summer. The team, led by Sarina Wiegman, will compete in Switzerland, aiming to repeat their historic Wembley victory.
The Football Association (FA) has agreed to this record bonus package, resolving an impasse that threatened to disrupt England’s campaign. This agreement marks a ample increase over their previous bonus, rewarding players based on minutes played and appearances. On average, each player could earn around £73,000, an £18,000 increase from the last tournament.
Players have reportedly expressed satisfaction with the agreement. The FA is also pleased to have finalized negotiations before the Lionesses convened at St George’s Park for pre-tournament preparations. However, these early meetings have been overshadowed by goalkeeper Mary Earps’ recent retirement.

Uefa has increased the total prize money for the Euros, with the 16 participating nations vying for a share of £34 million. this figure more than doubles the prize pot from 2022.
Despite this increase, the prize money remains significantly less than that awarded in the men’s game. For comparison, the England men’s team would have shared approximately £14 million had they won their Euros final in Germany last year.
The FA maintains equal match fees for both the men’s and women’s teams, with players receiving around £2,000 per match, often donated to charity. In contrast, England’s men’s rugby team recently received as much as £23,000 per match, with some players on elite contracts.
The Euros will take place in July, with England drawn into Group D alongside France, Wales, and the Netherlands.
