Bumrah’s Role in Upcoming Test Series Against England Uncertain
Jasprit Bumrah, currently ranked as the world’s top bowler, may not play all Test matches in the upcoming series against England. Gautam Gambhir indicated that the decision hinges on managing Bumrah’s workload throughout the series.
The schedule presents challenges, with only seven days separating the first and second Tests, commencing July 2 in Edgbaston. A mere three-day gap follows between the second Test’s conclusion and the start of the third at Lord’s. While an eight-day break occurs between the third and fourth matches, only three days separate the fourth Test and the series finale at The oval.
Bumrah recently played his first red-ball match as January. Despite not taking a wicket in 19 overs against England, after England completed a chase of 371, his performance was noted.
Mohammed Siraj took two wickets for 173 runs. Prasidh Krishna claimed five wickets at an average of 6.3 runs per over. Shardul Thakur, selected for batting depth, scored one and four runs and took two wickets for 89 runs in 16 overs.
gambhir defended the bowlers, highlighting Krishna’s dismissals of Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope, and Thakur’s wickets of Ben Duckett and Harry Brook.
“Prasidh bowled really well and got us crucial wickets,” gambhir said. “We picked him because we thought he had something different, he had that bounce and in the first innings he used that bounce really well.”
Gambhir added that Thakur’s wickets were crucial in bringing India back into the game, emphasizing the need for consistency among the bowlers.
What’s next
The team will assess Bumrah’s physical condition before deciding which two additional matches he will participate in. The focus remains on ensuring the bowlers maintain consistency throughout the series.
