On November 5, 2024, the Industrial Engineering Department of the School of Engineering and Architecture held events as part of their extension program. The program is titled “Implementing a Comprehensive 5S Life Program to Enhance Happy Hallow Barangay’s Safety and Information Programs.” This event focused on discussing the results from a previous assessment and providing a seminar on workspace organization.

The program involved the following activities:

  1. Sharing Pre-Assessment Results: Student leaders Nathaniel Modesto and Princes June Abata presented the results of the 5S Practice and Layout Functionality assessment.

  2. 2S Seminar: Engr. Anthony James Domingo, a faculty member with extensive 5S experience, led a seminar on organizing workspaces.

  3. Layout Presentation: BSIE students presented recommended layouts for key areas, including the Main floor, Kitchen, Clinic, and Daycare Center.

  4. Selection of Layouts: The Happy Hallow Barangay Council selected layouts for implementation in various workspaces.

Before the event, students analyzed current layouts and workflows using Systematic Layout Planning. They proposed three alternative layouts for each area and received input from barangay council members after the presentations.

The event facilitators included Industrial Engineering faculty members: Michelle Adiwang, Maria Lourdes Bibit-Chee, Abegail Tagal, Patrick Franz Pascua, and Mark Emriel Parlan. Geraldine Nerona coordinated the event.

At the close of the event, Hon. Julia Dangpa from the barangay expressed gratitude to the SLU IE Team for the valuable knowledge gained and for the proposed solutions to improve barangay organization and safety.

Partners in this program included American Corner Baguio, Department of Science and Technology-CAR, and the City Government of Baguio.
