Dietrich Enns Returns to MLB, Shines in Tigers’ Victory

Dietrich Enns made a memorable return to Major League Baseball on Thursday, pitching five scoreless innings for the Detroit Tigers in their 8-0 victory over the Athletics.The 34-year-old left-hander, whose last appearance in the big leagues was Sept. 24,2021,allowed just one hit and two walks.
Enns, a former Central Michigan University pitcher, signed a minor league deal with the Tigers this spring after spending three years playing baseball in Japan and South Korea. He was called up from Triple-A Toledo to make his Detroit debut in the series finale against Oakland.
Manager A.J. Hinch lauded Enns’ performance and hinted at a future role with the team. “He’s earned the right to pitch again in some capacity,” Hinch said. “We’re looking forward to getting him out there after we get him his normal rest and see if it’s going to be in the bullpen. Is he going to be starting, I don’t know. But it’s going to be in the big leagues.”
In the first inning, Enns retired the Athletics in order on just eight pitches.He faced 17 batters in total, striking out four and throwing 55 of his 77 pitches for strikes. This strong pitching performance highlights his potential pitching role for the Tigers.
“That was always the goal, to get back,” Enns said. “Use those stops along the way, wherever I was, to hone the craft and get better and try and be as good as I can when I’m at the major league level.”
Catcher Jake Rogers praised Enns’ command and ability to keep the A’s hitters off balance. “Did exactly what he needed to do… Stuck to the plan and got a lot of swift outs,” Rogers said.
