EnsoData Raises $20M to Advance AI-Powered Sleep Apnea Diagnosis
EnsoData, a Madison, Wis., company specializing in AI-driven sleep analysis, has secured $20 million in Series B funding led by Questa Capital. The funding will support the advancement of its technology aimed at improving sleep apnea diagnosis. CEO justin Mortara said the round brings their total funding to just over $50 million.
Founded in 2015, EnsoData’s platform uses artificial intelligence to analyze data from both polysomnography and home sleep apnea tests. The system identifies sleep stages and respiratory events, enabling quicker detection of apneas, hypopneas, and arousals.
Mortara said the technology integrates into existing clinical workflows, helping healthcare providers diagnose sleep disorders with greater speed and consistency. The company operates on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, charging per patient.
according to Mortara, EnsoData’s AI platform automates sleep report generation within minutes, reducing the time clinicians spend scoring data by nearly 70%. This allows them to focus more on interpreting results and patient care.
“EnsoData’s technology saves clinicians time and enables private sleep labs and healthcare systems to provide patients with fast and accurate diagnoses, treatment and results – while also generating more revenue by reducing the amount of time clinicians spend analyzing data by nearly 70%,” Mortara said.
EnsoData distinguishes itself by offering software as a medical device (samd), compatible with various devices. Mortara added that this interoperability and scalability, with costs under $25 per patient, set them apart from hardware-focused competitors like Zoll and SleepImage in the sleep apnea diagnostic market.
The company currently serves over 125 customers, supporting more than 75,000 patients monthly. EnsoData’s primary customers include sleep centers within health systems, private sleep clinics, sleep management organizations, and independent diagnostic testing facilities. Case studies have been completed with CommonSpirit Health, Northwell Health, Rush University Health System, and Sanford Health.
What’s next
With the new funding, EnsoData plans to expand its reach and further refine its AI-powered platform to address the widespread problem of undiagnosed sleep apnea, offering a scalable and efficient solution for healthcare providers.
