Enterprise Ireland CEO to Step Down, Leaving Behind Record Growth
Dublin, Ireland – After a accomplished tenure marked by record-breaking growth, Enterprise Ireland CEO Leo Clancy announced his resignation, effective March 2024. Clancy will be pursuing a new career opportunity in the private sector.
Clancy’s departure comes at a time of notable achievement for the agency, which supports Irish businesses in expanding internationally. Under his leadership, enterprise Ireland achieved record results in client jobs and exports, contributing substantially to the Irish economy.
“This announcement comes at a time when the agency is in a very strong position,” said michael carey, chairman of enterprise Ireland.”We have achieved record results in terms of client jobs and exports, spend in the Irish economy and support for start-ups.”
Enterprise Minister Peter Burke echoed Carey’s sentiments, praising Clancy’s contributions to scaling Irish enterprise on the global stage and his focus on balanced regional growth.
“A great colleague and an exceptional public servant, I thank him for his contribution,” Burke said.
clancy’s successor will face the challenge of continuing this momentum. Enterprise Ireland will immediately begin a recruitment process to fill the CEO position, which carries a salary of €217,200.
In the interim, Kevin Sherry, an executive director of global business development at Enterprise Ireland, will assume the role of interim CEO starting in March.
Clancy’s departure follows a period of significant growth for Enterprise ireland. last year, the agency reported that companies it supports exported goods and services worth €34.6 billion, the highest level ever recorded. Employment in client companies also reached a record high of 225,495, with a net gain of 5,011 jobs.
However, Enterprise Ireland has also faced challenges in recent years, including difficulties in hiring qualified staff due to lengthy clearance processes. Last year, the agency highlighted these issues in a memo to its parent department, emphasizing the need for more streamlined procedures.
