Environmental Contingency Maintained
The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAME) has decided to maintain Phase 1 of the Environmental Contingency following poor air quality readings in the metropolitan area of Mexico City and its adjacent Valley.
CAME’s decision extending the controls will affect vehicle movement in the city and outlying areas up to Friday, February 28. Exactly which vehicles will be affected by this ruling is yet to be defined. A detailed report will set the tone by 3 p.m. today. These measures would disrupt the usual “double Hoy No Circula” program, initially left ambiguous.
In response to environmental conditions evaluated, Thursday, today’s no-drive rule applies to all vehicles with a verification hologram Class 2, as well as those with the digits last plate terminated in 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 0, Additionally, verification hologram 00 and 0, green gums, and last digits 1 and 2.

Air pollutants, particularly nitrogen compounds, remain high due to the inversion layers that are trapping emissions close to the surface. Authorities have pledged to continue regular monitoring for potentially adverse weather patterns. Residents with asthma, COPD, and other respiratory issues are especially vulnerable to accentuated symptoms in these conditions. Cardiovascular patients are also at elevated risk. Mexico’s environmental authorities are determined to sustain and enhance remedial actions.
The air and health index of the capital government assured that the “Air quality is ‘bad'” said a government report from 10 a.m. Tuesday
CAME Unveils Additional Initiatives
The CAME, responsible for monitoring and implementing environmental measures, activated Phase 1 of the Environmental Contingency in response to severe pollution levels in February. With a heightened risk posed to public health, authorities are implementing multi-pronged policies to mitigate pollution and protect the sensitive groups:
“The air quality is ‘bad'” for residents in exposed locales — especially within state limits. Beware of risks arising from susceptible groups engaging in outdoor recreation activities
“This means that the health risk is ‘Alto’”

- Avoid activities between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Abandon civic, cultural and outdoor exercises during this time period.
- Public or entertainment firms should abort leisure activities executed in outdoor locations during window of time.
- Postponing carnivals and outdoor activities between these hours are advisable.
- LeSuspend smoking, especially in enclosed area.
- Enable and perform remote activities to minimize trips).
- Avoid pneumecal aromatizers, aerosols, decorations, painters, waterproofing or substances containing VOC solvents.
- Gasoline during the periods Belo 6:00 p.m. and instead pump fuel until 10.p.m. Do not refresh more fuel beyond the point when the filling gun pops Blow easily
- Inspect and restore leaks within. household fuel facilities.
