Eoin Hayes Suspended From Social Democrats Over Palantir Shares
Irish Politician Suspended After Admitting to misleading Public About Stock Sale
Dublin, Ireland – newly elected Social Democrats TD Eoin Hayes has been suspended from the party after admitting to providing false information about the sale of his shares in Palantir, a software company that provides artificial intelligence tools to the Israeli military.
Hayes, who won a seat in the Dublin Bay South constituency just ten days ago, initially claimed he had sold his shares before entering politics.however, he later admitted that he sold the shares in July 2024, one month after being elected to Dublin City Council.

“This was not true,” said Social Democrats deputy leader Cian O’Callaghan, announcing Hayes’ suspension. “Eoin was first elected to Dublin city Council in June 2024 and the shares were sold in July 2024. This is a serious matter. It is indeed imperative that the media, who hold politicians to account on behalf of the public, can rely on the information they recieve from elected representatives.”
Hayes, who worked for Palantir between 2015 and 2017, received 7,000 shares as part of his employment package. He sold them for a pre-tax figure of €199,000.
In a statement, Hayes apologized for providing incorrect information and said he “deeply regrets” not selling the shares sooner, citing PalantirS increasing support for the Israeli military.
“Throughout the course of the past year, Palantir’s support for the Israeli military has markedly increased,” Hayes said. “In January, the company signed a new strategic partnership wiht the Israeli Defense Ministry.I should have sold my shares then and I deeply regret that I did not.”
Hayes will take his seat as an self-reliant when the Dáil resumes on December 18th. he expressed hope that he could “earn back the trust of the Social Democrats,” stating his commitment to the party’s principles.
Sinn Féin’s Matt Carthy described the situation as “quite astounding” and called on Hayes to resign. While acknowledging the Social Democrats’ swift action, Carthy suggested that had the information been public knowledge earlier, the election outcome in Dublin Bay South might have been different.
This incident raises questions about transparency and accountability in Irish politics, particularly regarding potential conflicts of interest.
