Épesses to Host the Legendary 24 Hours Mondial des Tracassets

The 24th World Championship of Tracassets is scheduled to take place on April 25, 2026, in the village of Epesses, Switzerland. This biennial event serves as a celebration of Vaudoise culture and local heritage, centering on a specialized form of viticultural machinery.

The competition focuses on the tracasset, a unique three-wheeled vehicle designed specifically for the steep, terraced vineyards of the Lavaux region. These machines are described as a hybrid between a tractor and a moped, valued for their agility in difficult vineyard paths.

History and Evolution of the Competition

The World Championship of Tracassets began in 1956 in Cully. After several decades, the event relocated to Epesses in 1979, where it has since become a permanent fixture of the local calendar.

Currently organized every two years, the event has evolved into a festive gathering that attracts families, enthusiasts, and curious visitors to the Riviera vaudoise. It is recognized as an emblematic event of the Lavaux UNESCO region.

Competition Format and Events

The championship is structured as both a creative showcase and a technical competition. The day begins with a large parade through the heart of the village, where teams present tracassets that have been decorated with imagination, often incorporating costumes and humorous themes.

Following the parade, the event transitions into a competitive agility race. Pilots must navigate a winding technical course through Epesses, demonstrating their skill by maneuvering their three-wheeled machines through various obstacles.

The program for the 24th edition is organized as follows:

• 11:30: Opening of the bars and food services.
• 12:30: Arrival of the tracassets at the village square of Epesses.
• 14:15: Start of the agility trial.
• 17:00: First performance by The Music Machine.
• 17:45: Prize-giving ceremony.
• 18:15: Second performance by The Music Machine and the start of the festive evening.

Transportation and Access

Due to the expected crowds and the layout of the village, organizers have implemented specific transportation measures. A free shuttle service will operate from 12:00 to 20:00 on April 25, 2026.

These shuttles will depart approximately every 30 minutes from the train stations in Cully, Puidoux, and Chexbres.

Parking within Epesses is extremely limited. Available parking spaces are located along the road on both sides of the village. Organizers have stated that it will be impossible to drive through the village during the manifestation, and visitors are advised to follow the instructions of the agents on site.
