Review of the movie ‘She Comes in April’

The movie resonated deeply with me, as if it was quietly calling out the emotions that were sleeping deep inside someone’s heart.

Japan’s unique, detailed and delicate sensibility helps this film to excellently capture the journey of reflecting on the true meaning of love.

This work is based on the novel of the same name by Genki Kawamura. While the novel conveyed emotions to the reader like a whisper, the movie added vivid breath to those whispers, filling their story with visual and sensuous beauty.

Fujishiro’s story made me feel the two paths of love he had walked, as if I was following his journey.

Haru, his first love, was a symbol of youth and dreams to him.

Their love was as clear and brilliant as the sun, but due to their parents’ opposition and fateful events, its light gradually dimmed.

The letter Haru left was not simply a tool to recall old memories.

It was a window that gave Fujishiro the courage to face forgotten emotions and precious moments again.

In the novel, this letter quietly resonated inside Fujishiro, but in the movie, the letter became a bridge between his present and his past, leading Fujishiro to look at his current life in a new way.

Yayoi was another face of love.

It seemed to give Fujishiro stability and peace, but behind that peace lay unspeakable anxiety and emptiness.

Her disappearance was not simply a development of the story, but a moment that revealed the fear and anxiety she had been harboring all along.

The movie unfolds Yayoi’s inner self through the actor’s delicate facial expressions and actions, allowing us to deeply feel how many worries and conflicts she had in her relationship with Fujishiro.

In the novel, this anxiety was described in words and sentences, but the movie embodied that moment as a living, breathing emotion on screen, allowing the audience to understand her feelings.

The movie’s scenes touched Fujishiro’s emotions in the quiet streets of Prague, the infinite sky of the Uyuni Salt Flats, and the cold earth of Iceland.

As if those scenes reflected his inner self, I also felt the sense of loss and wandering that Fujishiro must have felt in those scenes.

If a novel was a story that unfolded in the reader’s imagination, a movie made me immerse myself in the story by unfolding that imagination before my eyes as if it were reality.

The scenes where Fujishiro explores his inner self while recalling his lost love in the beautiful scenery made me, the audience, face his sadness and longing.

Fujishiro searches for the meaning of love between Haru and Yayoi.

One day makes him realize that love exists in fleeting brilliance and that even those brief moments are precious.

Her confession, “I was loved only when I loved,” was at the center of the movie.

Even though the moment passes fleetingly, the memories they shared are unforgettable and remain deep in our hearts.

Through this message of one day, the movie makes Fujishiro realize that love is not just a spark of emotion, but also a lingering feeling that remains afterward.

Yayoi’s disappearance makes Fujishiro look at a different side of love.

Her absence reminds him that love is not simply an expression of beautiful emotions, but that it is complete when two people add understanding and devotion.

The movie conveys this message even more strongly, saying that love cannot last through simple feelings alone and that it sometimes deepens through the process of getting hurt, wandering, and finding each other again.

While the novel explored this topic intimately, the movie depicted it as a journey that touched the audience’s heart through the actors’ honest acting and emotional scenes.

This film is not simply a story of separation and reunion.

tells the story of the courage to ultimately choose love despite anxiety and fear.

Through Haru and Yayoi, Fujishiro sees the different faces of love and discovers himself within them.

Haru’s letter reminds him of the beauty of the past and makes Yayoi feel the uncertainty of the present and the weight of love.

Through all of this, Fujishiro learns that love is not just a feeling that two people share, but that it is a journey of finding oneself, understanding each other, and growing together.

The movie is not just a typical narrative of separation and reunion.

It captures the anxiety and expectations we feel in love, and the process of finding ourselves through those emotions.

Even after the movie ended, the lingering feelings that resonated deep in my heart stayed with me for a long time and made me reflect on my love.
