Minnie Hauk, with Ryan Moore aboard, surged to victory in ‍the Oaks at epsom, leading a one-two finish for Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien. The 9-2 shot edged out stablemate Whirl, while previously undefeated favorite Desert Flower finished third in the fillies’ ⁢race.

The victory marked O’Brien’s 11th in the Oaks and a record-extending 46th British ⁢Classic. O’Brien lauded Minnie Hauk as a ⁢”very exciting filly” who is still developing and will⁣ improve with more races.

Desert Flower faced early pressure, seemingly struggling with the unique,⁢ undulating Epsom track. Minnie Hauk, named after an⁣ American opera singer and winner of⁣ the Cheshire Oaks, ultimately overtook Whirl⁢ in the final furlong to win by a neck.

“Whirl came ⁢back ⁢and my filly found a little bit more. I think she’ll improve ⁢for the experiance and as far as three-year-old ‍fillies go, ⁣she’s very good,” said‌ Moore, celebrating his fifth Oaks victory.

Charlie Appleby, trainer of Desert Flower, noted that his horse appeared‌ unbalanced on the ‌downhill section and suggested she would perform better on a more conventional course. Appleby also mentioned his intention to enter Ruling Court in the⁢ Derby, contingent ⁤on favorable ground conditions.

What’s next

O’Brien is set to⁢ saddle Delacroix, also ridden by Moore, along with The Lion In‌ Winter⁣ and Lambourn, in the upcoming derby, aiming for his 11th victory in that prestigious ⁢race.
