Updated June 21, 2025
⁣

After 35 years‍ as⁣ an emergency room physician, Dr.⁤ Kenneth Ro is ⁢embarking on a new chapter, driven by a desire to “do more good.” Ro, a korean American who grew up in central Texas, says his early life taught him that being different could be both a blessing and a⁣ curse. He faced bullying and ostracization, leading him to seek safety‍ in achievement.

“I didn’t‍ just ⁤chase success.I hid behind it,” Ro said. He became a doctor, not for prestige, but for a mission⁢ and ‍a mask. His career placed him at the forefront of the AIDS epidemic and later, the COVID-19 ⁣pandemic, experiences that profoundly impacted him.

Ro acknowledges the toll these experiences took. “The body⁣ always keeps the⁢ score,” he said, explaining how he⁤ compartmentalized emotions, which later manifested as addiction and anger.he describes a journey of spiritual awakening and a reckoning ⁤with shame, leading to a ⁢reclamation of love.

This journey has culminated ⁤in the Nova Oath, Ro’s evolved take on the Hippocratic Oath. While the original oath focuses on “do no harm,” the Nova Oath emphasizes showing up with integrity, treating oneself with care, and choosing peace over pressure.

Ro’s mission is to inspire both patients and healthcare professionals to move beyond mere survival and embrace sovereignty and purpose. ⁤he advocates for⁣ a shift in focus, urging individuals⁣ to make a meaningful difference in the world.

“I’m no longer chasing‍ excellence ⁣to prove I belong. I belong because I choose to,” Ro said.
