Eric Arakawa Named Icon of Foam at 2025 Boardroom Show

Esteemed surfboard shaper Eric Arakawa, known for his innovative designs and work with surfing legends, will be honored as the Icon of Foam at the 2025 Boardroom International Surfboard Show. The show takes place Oct. 11-12 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in Del Mar, California.
Arakawa,with five decades of experience,will also judge the Icon of Foam shaping competition,where shapers will replicate his signature surfboard designs. Tickets for the Boardroom Show will be available in September.
the Boardroom International Surfboard Show is considered the world’s largest marketplace for surfing hard goods. It offers surfers a chance to connect with and learn from surfboard builders. the event includes the Best in Show board build-off, challenging shapers to create functional fish surfboards with wood accents and meaningful symbology.
Scott Bass,executive director of the Boardroom Show,emphasized the importance of connecting surfers with the shapers and designers behind their boards. He noted that the event highlights the core of the surfing experience: surfboards and the people who craft them.
“I am surprised but stoked to be honored at this year’s Boardroom Show,” Arakawa saeid. “I love the craft as much or more than when I started 50 years ago. I am looking forward to the Boardroom opening day in October. Aloha.”
Arakawa gained prominence through his work with world champions Derek Ho and Andy Irons. Irons famously rode Arakawa surfboards during his 2003 world title run. Today, surfers like Eala Stewart and WSL competitor Jack Robinson rely on arakawa’s boards for performance in challenging conditions.
