Éric Dina Ebimbe, a midfielder for the French club Stade Brestois, has expressed deep pride in representing the Cameroon national team, comparing the team’s historical standing in Africa to that of football giants Brazil and Argentina in South America.

In an interview with Foot Mercato, the 25-year-old player described Cameroon as the best African nation. He noted that the team’s historical importance on the continent is equivalent to the role France plays in Europe or Brazil and Argentina play in South America.

Dina Ebimbe, who became a Cameroonian international in December 2025, highlighted the privilege of playing for the national team, specifically noting the opportunity to participate in World Cup qualifiers.

The player’s decision to commit to Cameroon followed a conversation with David Pagou, who was appointed as the team’s coach on the eve of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. Dina Ebimbe stated that the coach explained a vision that resonated with him, making the timing right to represent his country.

Reflecting on his debut during the 2025 AFCON, Dina Ebimbe described the experience of wearing the national shirt as emotional. He appeared in three matches during the tournament, stating he was satisfied with his performances against Mozambique and Gabon.

However, he admitted that his experience in the match against Morocco was more difficult, as he entered the game without a proper warm-up and played in a position he does not typically master.

Despite the challenges of integrating into the squad, Cameroon reached the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Regarding the team’s performance at the AFCON, Dina Ebimbe said:

“We reached the quarter-finals of the CAN without knowing each other. I didn’t know the guys, I had never played with them, I had never seen them. Yet, we managed to do something interesting.”

The midfielder believes there is significant room for the team to improve. He expressed optimism that team cohesion and overall performance will increase by the end of 2026 as new talent joins the squad.

Dina Ebimbe has been playing for Stade Brestois since September 2025.
