Ero Copper Corp., a Canada-based copper and gold producer, is focused on operations in Brazil. The company, headquartered in Vancouver, B.C., currently operates two copper mines – Caraíba Operations in Bahia State and Tucumã Operation in Pará State – and the Xavantina Operations, a gold mine in Mato Grosso State.

Expanding Brazilian Footprint: Tucumã and Furnas Projects

Ero Copper recently achieved commercial production at its Tucumã operation, located in Pará State, Brazil, as of July 1, 2025. This project is expected to yield 326,000 tonnes of recovered copper over an initial 12-year mine life. The company is also actively exploring the Furnas copper-gold project in northern Brazil’s Carajás region, with early-stage drilling revealing high-grade intercepts extending to a depth of 730 metres.

Carajás Region: A Potential Copper Hub

David Strang, CEO and Director of Ero Copper, believes the Carajás region has the potential to become a major global copper producer within the next decade. He points to the region’s existing mineral wealth, particularly the substantial iron ore production by Vale, and the increasing demand for minerals crucial to clean technologies like copper, and nickel. Strang noted that Carajás is potentially the most prolific iron ore, copper, nickel district in the world, but has been historically underexplored due to Vale’s long-standing presence.

Brazil currently produces 99.5 million tonnes of copper annually and ranks as the 8th largest exporter worldwide, holding 1.6% of the global mined metal share. The majority of Brazilian copper deposits are located within the Carajás region, estimated to contain a total of 27.34 million tonnes of contained metal.

Operational Details: Caraíba, Tucumã, and Xavantina

The Caraíba operations, Ero Copper’s flagship asset, are located in northeastern Bahia State, approximately 385 kilometers north-northwest of Salvador. These operations encompass the underground mines Pilar and Vermelhos, as well as the Surubim open-pit mine. The Tucumã project, a copper type IOCG project, is located in Para, Brazil and is now in production. The Xavantina operations, in which Ero Copper holds a 97.6% stake through its ownership of NX Gold S.A., are a producing gold and silver mine located in Mato Grosso, approximately 670 km east of Cuiaba.
