Israel-Lebanon Tensions and Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

Israel and Lebanon face rising tensions. Israel has called for a stronger enforcement mechanism to counter Hezbollah threats, which Lebanon opposes. Recently, Israeli airstrikes targeted a Lebanese army base in Sarafand, killing three soldiers. This marks the second deadly strike in two days. Over the past month, at least 41 Lebanese soldiers have died due to Israeli bombardment.

On the diplomatic front, U.S. envoy Hochstein reported progress in talks with Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker, Nabih Berri. Berri stated the situation is generally good, but technical details remain unresolved.

In Gaza, a humanitarian crisis worsens. The United Nations reports that no food or aid has reached northern Gaza for over 40 days due to an ongoing Israeli blockade. Experts warn that famine may already be affecting the region, where heavy Israeli military actions have displaced many.

So far in November, Israel rejected most planned humanitarian missions to northern Gaza. Aid deliveries are at the lowest level since the war began. Only a small fraction of incoming aid reaches those in need, hampered by Israeli restrictions.

The situation escalated over the weekend when armed men stole almost 100 trucks of aid, creating shortages in central Gaza. Prices for basic goods have soared. Many families, displaced and struggling, are unable to buy essential items.

The U.N. highlights that Israeli forces instructed aid convoys to take unfamiliar routes, leading to thefts near the border. Israel blames Hamas and criminal gangs for the looting, a claim Hamas denies. They assert that they are acting against looters and have taken measures to improve security, but the main issue remains the low volume of aid allowed into Gaza.

UNRWA officials stress the dire need for more aid in the region. Clear and efficient action is crucial to address the urgent needs of the displaced population facing hunger and trauma.
