A 31-year-old prisoner of Pakistani origin, identified only by his initials K.N., escaped from the Coroneo prison in Trieste, Italy, today, December 14, 2023. The escape reportedly involved jumping from the prison to land outside the facility, mirroring scenes often depicted in films.
The prisoner was awaiting trial at the time of his escape. A search operation is currently underway to locate and apprehend him.
Security Concerns and Planned Transfer
According to a report from the Uil penitentiary union, K.N. exploited scaffolding erected for ongoing renovations at the prison to facilitate his escape. Notably, the prison director had requested “very rigorous security measures” on December 10, 2023, specifically for K.N.’s scheduled transfer to court today, December 14th, to prevent the risk of escape.
Despite these precautions, K.N. was never brought to the courtroom.
