Ethel Cain has unveiled her latest track, ‘Nettles,’ an expansive eight-minute song incorporating synthesizers reminiscent of the iconic TV series, Twin Peaks. The new single offers a glimpse into Cain’s forthcoming album, ‘Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You’.
The new album, which she announced earlier this year, serves as a prequel to her acclaimed ‘Preacher’s Daughter’ album and follows her recent ‘Perverts’ EP. ‘Nettles’ uses a banjo and lush instrumentation to explore themes of love and mortality, envisioning a lifelong journey alongside a cherished partner.
Beyond vocals and banjo, Cain also played synthesizers, piano, electric, acoustic and bass guitars on the track.She revealed that the song draws inspiration from David Lynch’s Twin Peaks, specifically seeking out the synthesizers used by Angelo Badalamenti for the show’s theme.
To everyone saying the intro reminds them of Twin Peaks; late last year I watched that video of Angelo Badalamenti explaining how he wrote Laura’s theme and loved it so much that I hunted down the synths he used for the Twin Peaks soundtrack and those are the ones I used for ‘willoughby…’
The Ethel Cain tour is scheduled to kick off following the album’s August 8 release. The tour includes stops at London’s Eventim Apollo, Paris’ L’Olympia, New York’s Radio City Music Hall, Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium, and Berkeley’s Greek Theater.The US leg begins in August, wiht UK dates starting in October.
