EU Parliament Unites Behind Ukraine: Calls for Unrestricted Access to Russian Targets in Escalating Conflict
European Parliament Urges EU Countries to Support Ukraine’s Defense
The European Parliament has adopted a decision calling on EU countries to allow Ukraine to target legitimate military objectives in the Russian Federation. This move aims to support Ukraine’s right to self-defense and counter Russian aggression.
Members of the European Parliament believe that current restrictions on Western weapons targeting Russian military objectives hinder Ukraine’s ability to defend itself. This vulnerability has left Ukraine open to attacks by Russian troops.
The decision was adopted with a significant majority, with 425 MEPs voting in favor, 131 against, and 63 abstaining.
Key Demands from the European Parliament
- Speed up the supply of modern air defense systems, as well as other requested weapons and ammunition, including Taurus missiles.
- Expand sanctions against the Russian Federation, Belarus, and countries or organizations supplying military technologies to Moscow.
- Provide long-term financial support for Ukraine’s reconstruction through the European Commission.
- Increase funding for Ukraine and refrain from reducing contributions from all EU countries.
By adopting this decision, the European Parliament reaffirms its commitment to supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
