EU Steps in with €1.5 Billion Lifeline: Romania’s Disaster Victims to Receive Critical Support
Romania to Receive €1.5 Billion from EU Cohesion Fund for Flood Relief
Romania will receive a significant financial boost from the European Union to support the restoration of infrastructure and homes destroyed by recent floods.
The European Commission has allocated €1.5 billion from the EU Cohesion Fund to aid Romania in its recovery efforts. This decision was made following a meeting between the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and several European leaders.
However, Romania’s Prime Minister, Marcel Ciolacu, was notably absent from this crucial meeting. The President of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Nicolae Ciucă, has expressed concern over the Prime Minister’s absence, stating that it is essential for the government to act swiftly in providing aid to the affected areas.
The floods have caused widespread damage across several European countries, with Romania being one of the hardest hit. The counties of Galati and Vaslui were particularly affected, with a state of alert being established until October 16.
The assessment of damages and flooded homes is ongoing, and the Romanian government is working to provide support to those affected. The €1.5 billion allocated by the EU Cohesion Fund will play a significant role in the country’s recovery efforts.
The National Liberal Party has emphasized the importance of unity and swift action in addressing the needs of those affected by the floods. The party’s MEPs have been instrumental in initiating and supporting the decision to allocate funds for Central European countries.
