A 30-year-old Fiat motorhome sold for just 500 euros in Eurasburg on Oct. 1, 2026, after three prospective buyers staged a mechanical failure during a test drive, merkur.de reported.

The Fiat Motorhome Sale

The owner of the vintage vehicle had listed the camper for several thousand euros on a sales platform. He arranged to meet interested parties in Eurasburg at 8 p.m. on Oct. 1, 2026. Instead of a single buyer, three men arrived at the meeting location, according to Alexander Möckl, deputy head of the Wolfratshausen police station.

While one man kept the owner occupied with conversation, the other two individuals tampered with the vehicle’s engine. Just before the scheduled test drive, smoke began to pour from the motor of the Fiat, and the vehicle refused to start. The trio convinced the owner that the camper was completely unroadworthy.

The 500 Euro Written Contract

Convinced the engine was broken, the owner agreed to lower the price drastically and signed a written contract selling the camper for 500 euros. Wolfratshausen police noted that the buyer name listed on the paperwork is entirely illegible.

The deception became obvious immediately after the transaction concluded. Once the money and documents changed hands, the supposedly broken Fiat engine started up immediately without any mechanical issues. Fortunately, the seller had asked one of the men for an identity document and photographed it prior to the sale.

Police Investigation in Wolfratshausen

Officers at the Wolfratshausen police department have opened a formal criminal investigation into the fraudulent sale. Investigators are reviewing the photographic evidence of the identification document to track down the suspects involved in the motorhome manipulation.
