The Euro and the US Dollar experienced a decline against the Algerian Dinar at the close of May 2026, according to exchange data from the parallel market in Algiers.
On Sunday, May 31, 2026, currency traders at Square Port-Saïd, the primary reference point for the black market in Algeria, offered the Euro at 277 Algerian dinars.
This rate represents a decrease of 0.5 dinars compared to the previous week’s rate of 277.50 dinars, which was recorded prior to the Aïd el-Adha holiday.
The US Dollar followed a similar downward trend. On May 31, 2026, the currency was traded at 236.50 dinars at the Square Port-Saïd market, down from 237 dinars the previous week.
While these adjustments are marginal, they confirm a trajectory of decline for both currencies toward the end of the month. The Euro, in particular, has moved further away from the 280-dinar psychological threshold since mid-May.
A significant disparity continues to exist between the rates found in the parallel market and the official exchange rates applied by the Bank of Algeria.
Official bank rates remained unchanged from the previous week. As of May 31, 2026, the official selling price for the Euro was 154.93 dinars and the official rate for the US Dollar was 133.11 dinars.
The parallel market values at Square Port-Saïd remain substantially higher than these official figures, despite the slight dip observed at the end of May.
