Everton Women Set to Make Historic Move to Goodison Park

Everton Women are poised to make a meaningful step forward in their history by relocating to the iconic Goodison Park for the upcoming Women’s Super League season.This move marks a pivotal moment for the club, offering a dedicated adn historic home ground as they continue to grow and compete at the highest level of women’s football.

A New Era at goodison Park

The Toffees have been in the process of converting the historic stadium for women’s Super League football, with preparations underway to ensure the ground meets the requirements for the new season, which kicks off with a Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Anfield on September 7.

While Chelsea Women recently sold 8% of their women’s team to Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian in a deal valuing the club at £240m, Everton women’s market value, even with the inclusion of Goodison Park, does not approach that figure. However, the significance of the move to goodison Park extends beyond financial valuation.

The stadium, situated in a conservation area, has secured pre-planning approval for a redevelopment project that includes affordable housing, a sports centre, and community buildings. These facilities are slated to be managed by the Goodison Legacy Project, underscoring the club’s commitment to community integration and regeneration.

Stadium Refurbishments and Future Capacity

The lower tiers of the Park End, Gwladys Street, and Main Stand are currently undergoing refurbishment. Notably, the upper tiers will not be utilized in the initial phase. While the final capacity is yet to be confirmed, sources indicate it will initially be around 20,000, with the potential for expansion should demand increase. This phased approach ensures a focused and efficient transition to the new home ground.

The move to Goodison Park represents a significant investment in the future of Everton Women, providing them with a platform to attract larger crowds, enhance their matchday experience, and solidify their presence within the WSL. This historic relocation is expected to galvanize support and further elevate the profile of women’s football in Merseyside.
