As reported by polygon.com, Evil Dead Burn landed on HBO Max during the early days of October and rapidly ascended to the summit of the platform’s American film rankings. The latest entry in the long-running horror franchise reached No. 1 on the platform just days after its streaming debut, according to FlixPatrol data cited by polygon.com.
Alice Fights Possessed In-Laws in New Standalone Story
Directed by Sébastien Vaniček, the film follows a woman named Alice who is grieving the death of her husband. Played by Souheila Yacoub, Alice retreats to a secluded family home with her in-laws to process their loss. The gathering turns into a nightmare when demonic forces transform the family members into Deadites, leaving Alice fighting to survive against possessed, undead monsters.

The feature also stars Tandi Wright, Hunter Doohan, and Luciane Buchanan. It follows 2023’s Evil Dead Rise as another standalone narrative in the franchise’s gruesome corner of horror.
Rotten Tomatoes Score and Polygon Review Contrast
The movie holds a 70 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating that its blood-soaked approach has drawn plenty of admirers, polygon.com reported. However, reviews remain mixed regarding its tonal balance.
Polygon’s review argued that Evil Dead Burn struggles to balance grotesque horror and slapstick comedy. Despite commending the movie’s creative sound design, cinematography, and imaginative kills, that same evaluation noted that the narrative’s exploration of family violence and grief never quite gels properly.
Streaming Chart Dominance During Spooky Movie Season
The streaming success arrives alongside several other genre releases for October 2026. Other titles drawing attention include Obsession, a new adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie, and another Resident Evil movie bringing video game-inspired scares to screens.
For horror fans seeking practical effects pushing the limits of good taste and demons wreaking havoc, Evil Dead Burn provides a bloody spectacle at the top of the charts.
