Ex-CIX Member Hyun-seok Aims to Become the Next Breakout Actor in Study Group 2

Stepping into Acting and Targeting the Rising Star Ranks

During a recent interview at the TenAsia office in Jung-gu, Seoul, Hyun-seok discussed his career shift from idol group member to actor. Watching contemporaries gain recognition early in their acting careers motivated him to set his sights on the same trajectory. I want to rise to the ranks of mainstream stars like senior Lee Chae-min, senior Moon Sang-min, and Jae-won, Hyun-seok said, as reported by TenAsia. I am still very much a rookie, but I want to work hard quickly and be active as an actor just like those wonderful seniors. Acknowledging the skepticism that sometimes faces idols transitioning into acting, Hyun-seok emphasized his commitment to proving himself through performance. Since I transitioned from an idol to an actor, some perspectives might not view it favorably, he stated in the interview. I am working hard at acting so that I can break down those kinds of views. He added that he wants audiences and fans to recognize his genuine efforts to become a skilled performer.

Joining TVING’s Study Group Season 2

Hyun-seok’s next acting project is the upcoming TVING series Study Group Season 2, adapted from the webtoon of the same name about a student named Yoon Ga-min who wants to study but possesses talent only for fighting. Joining an established production for its second season brought initial concerns about fitting in with an existing cast. The people who filmed Season 1 are already close, aren’t they? Hyun-seok recalled thinking. I had a big thought of ‘Will I be able to blend in well there?’ Those worries eased when he arrived on set, largely due to co-star Cha Woo-min, with whom Hyun-seok also appeared in Choi’s Employee. The two actors maintain a close friendship outside of work, meeting once or twice a week. Woo-min hyung didn’t even know I was auditioning for ‘Study Group 2,’ Hyun-seok said. He didn’t talk about it until the end, and the person who delivered the news that I was cast first was Woo-min hyung. Once filming began, Cha helped integrate his friend into the cast. When I saw Woo-min hyung at the site, my mind became really comfortable, Hyun-seok explained. Hyung joked around a lot and introduced me to the other ‘Study Group’ members. Describing his personal preferences in relationships, Hyun-seok noted that he gravitates toward easygoing personalities, mentioning Cha and another friend, Jinyoung, as examples of the relaxed, straightforward style he clicks with.

Career Outlook and Future Goals

When asked if Study Group Season 2 could propel him into breakout status, Hyun-seok admitted his optimism without hesitation. If I talk humbly, I should say ‘Not yet,’ but honestly, I’m looking forward to it, he said with a smile. He intends to use the project and future roles to expand his visibility to viewers. Through ‘Study Group’ as well as various other works that I will meet in the future, I want to show myself to more people, he said.
