Alex de Souza (born Alexei Nicolau de freitas in Curitiba, Brazil, on September 14, 1977) is a retired Brazilian professional footballer and current football manager. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of Fenerbahçe S.K., a Turkish Süper Lig club, where he spent the majority of his career.

De souza began his professional career with Paraná Clube in Brazil. He then moved to Palmeiras before transferring to Cruzeiro in 1997. his talent quickly became apparent, and in 2004, he made a pivotal move to Fenerbahçe, a transfer that would define his legacy.

Fenerbahçe Stardom (2004-2012)

Alex de Souza’s time at Fenerbahçe was marked by extraordinary skill, leadership, and a remarkable goal-scoring record. He became the club’s all-time leading scorer, netting 171 goals in 341 appearances across all competitions. He led Fenerbahçe to multiple Süper Lig titles, including championships in the 2004-05, 2006-07, and 2010-11 seasons. International Career

Alex de Souza represented Brazil at the international level, earning 35 caps and scoring 11 goals for the national team. He was part of the Brazilian squad that won the 2004 Copa América, playing a key role in the tournament’s success. he also participated in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Coaching Career

Following his retirement as a player, Alex de souza transitioned into coaching. He began his coaching career with Fenerbahçe’s youth teams. He then served as an assistant coach for the first team, gaining valuable experience under various managers. According to Fanatik, he held the position of assistant coach.

In March 2024, Alex de Souza was appointed as the interim manager of Fenerbahçe, taking over the reins during a challenging period for the club. ESPN reported on his appointment,highlighting the meaning of a club legend stepping into the managerial role. He later became the permanent manager, but was relieved of his duties in November 2024.

Currently, as of December 2025, Alex de Souza is exploring new opportunities in football management, seeking a club where he can implement his tactical vision and continue his development as a coach.
