Autonomous TD violet Wynne Ordered to Pay Former Employee €1,500 by WRC

Dublin, Ireland – Independent TD Violet Wynne has been ordered ‌by the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) to pay €1,500 to⁤ a former ⁣employee, as part of ⁣a larger €11,500 award. The order came from Judge Alec Gabbett, who mandated weekly instalments of €50 to clear the outstanding debt.

Financial Strain and Lack of⁤ Details Hamper Payment Plan

During ⁤a⁣ court hearing, Ms Wynne ⁢detailed significant ⁢financial difficulties, citing her partner John Mountaine’s inability to work as mid-may due to ‌severe epilepsy. she stated that family loans, intended for essential household ⁤expenses like shopping and clothing for her children, are now considered unpayable by her benefactors.

Ms Wynne disclosed ‍that her weekly household bills amount to €895, while her income‍ is only €500, resulting in a weekly shortfall of €395. This revelation lead Judge Gabbett to express concern over the “serious deficit of information,” emphasizing⁣ the need for a ⁢clear paper trail to substantiate her claims.

“There might potentially be a cogent description for some of ‍this but in the absence of ‌paper it is indeed problematic,” Judge Gabbett stated, urging Ms wynne to be ⁣more forthcoming. Ms Wynne maintained that she had not withheld information.

Potential Legal⁢ Ramifications and Next Steps

The judge cautioned Ms Wynne about the serious implications of non-payment, highlighting that⁣ it constitutes a criminal offence, especially for a former member of the Dáil. Ms‍ Wynne ⁤indicated she would‌ explore disability benefits for her partner.

Judge Gabbett also requested a letter from the Clerk of the Dáil ‍detailing Ms Wynne’s entitlement to a TD termination payment.ms Wynne confirmed receiving a lump-sum termination payment, from which she had already paid €5,000 to⁣ the ⁤former employee, Ms Smyth. Though, she could not promptly provide the exact amount ⁤of this payment.

The WRC’s initial €11,500⁢ award was‌ made last August, following a finding‍ that Ms Smyth had been unfairly ‍dismissed.Ms Wynne, who ⁤previously earned ⁢an annual TD salary of⁤ €113,679, lost‌ her seat in Clare in the November general election, having previously topped the poll as a Sinn Féin candidate in 2020.

The case has been adjourned until September 19th, with the court awaiting further documentation to clarify Ms Wynne’s ⁢financial situation ⁣and entitlements.
