AZ Alkmaar Duo Lahdo & Belić Likely to Depart as Transfer Talks Progress
Table of Contents
AZ Alkmaar winger ihataren Lahdo and midfielder Dani de Wit are seemingly on the verge of leaving the club, confirmed head coach Pascal Martens ahead of Thursday’s Conference League qualifier against FC Vaduz. Both players where absent from Wednesday’s training session as they explore potential loan moves.
lahdo Nearing Loan to FC Nantes
The most advanced talks center around Lahdo, who has reportedly attracted significant interest from French Ligue 1 side FC Nantes. Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported last week that negotiations between AZ and Nantes are in the “final stages.”
The proposed deal is a loan with an option for Nantes to buy the 23-year-old winger, who joined Alkmaar in 2022. While Martens hasn’t ruled out Lahdo remaining at AZ, he indicated the club isn’t counting on him for the upcoming match against Vaduz.
“both Lahdo and Belić have not been to the group these two days,” Martens stated to ESPN. “That has to do with the fact that they have the room to see if they can achieve a rental or the like. I think the fact that they are not with the group says enough. You never know. Everything has to be fine in the end. As long as it is not, they are our player. But we don’t count on them for this match.”
De Wit Also Seeking opportunities
While the situation with Lahdo appears more concrete, Dani de Wit is also actively seeking a new club. Like Lahdo, he was absent from training on Wednesday, given space to pursue potential loan opportunities.
De Wit, a versatile midfielder, has been a consistent performer for AZ, but the club appears open to allowing him to gain experience elsewhere. No specific clubs have been publicly linked with De wit at this time, but the fact that he’s been given permission to explore options suggests his future at AZ is uncertain.
Impact on AZ Alkmaar’s Conference League Campaign
The potential departures of Lahdo and De Wit leave AZ Alkmaar with some adjustments to make ahead of their crucial Conference League qualifier against FC vaduz. Lahdo’s pace and trickery on the wing will be missed, while De Wit provides valuable energy and tactical versatility in midfield.
Martens will need to identify suitable replacements within the squad to fill the void left by the absent duo. This could provide an opportunity for younger players to step up and showcase their talent.
Despite the disruption, Martens remains focused on securing a positive result against Vaduz. “We are focused on the game against Vaduz and preparing the team accordingly,” he said. “We have a strong squad and we are confident we can get the job done.”
