Lawmaker to Investigate Korea Football Association’s Coach Selection Process
People Power Party lawmaker Jin Jong-oh, who runs the ‘Sports Corruption National Reporting Center’, announced that he would publicly verify in the National Assembly whether the Korea Football Association’s process for selecting national football team coach Hong Myung-bo was proper.
Representative Jin Jong-o announced through multiple media outlets on the 10th that he plans to verify information related to the National Assembly’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee’s investigation into the pending issues on the 24th.
Representative Jin also added that he is reviewing internal reporting materials to ensure transparency and accountability in the selection process.
Investigation into Controversy Over Coach Appointments
The National Assembly’s Culture and Sports Committee held a general meeting on the 5th and decided on a motion to request the attendance of 25 witnesses and 8 witnesses for the pending inquiry on the 24th regarding the controversy over the appointment of coaches Hong and Paris.
Notable witnesses include Coach Hong Myung-bo, Football Association president Chung Mong-gyu, and Badminton Association president Kim Taek-gyu.
Reports of Corruption in the Sports World
Earlier in the day, Rep. Jin held a press conference at the National Assembly and received about 70 reports of corruption in the sports world through the center, raising suspicions that the Korea Shooting Federation paid millions of won in performance bonuses to the association without giving the workers their due rewards.
