Exiled Iranian Crown Prince calls for Overthrow of Islamic Republic
Reza Pahlavi, a prominent figure in the Iranian opposition and son of the former Shah, announced a new phase in efforts to remove the current government on January 11, 2026. He called for the “overthrow of the Islamic Republic and reclaiming our dear Iran.”
In a video statement, Pahlavi declared that institutions and individuals responsible for state propaganda and communication shutdowns are “legitimate targets.” He specifically mentioned seizing control of central city streets as part of this effort.
“In addition to seizing and holding the central streets of cities, all institutions and apparatuses responsible for the regime’s false propaganda and cutting off communications are considered legitimate targets,” Pahlavi stated.
Pahlavi also addressed government employees and security forces, urging them to join the protests or risk being seen as collaborators. He called on Iranian diplomatic missions worldwide to display the pre-1979 Iranian flag. The Times of Israel reported that a protester briefly raised the flag at the Iranian consulate in Erbil, Iraq, in December 2022.
