This holiday season, New York City will host the Island of Warmth, an interactive art installation that features a glowing urban bonfire. It opens on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Manhattan West, inviting families to enjoy this innovative experience.
A Fun Communal Experience
Created by the Canadian design studio ATOMIC3, the Island of Warmth stands over nine feet tall. It has 220 light bulbs that respond to the movement of visitors. Families can control the lights by dancing and moving, creating a captivating light show. This installation aims to provide a cozy gathering spot during the holiday season.
Exciting Events at the Installation
Manhattan West will host live performances to enhance the experience on select Wednesdays from 5 to 7 PM. These events will feature dance, music, and holiday cheer against the backdrop of the installation.
- December 4: Dance Around the Campfire, with performances from local dance companies. Enjoy complimentary hot chocolate while watching.
- December 11: Caroling Around the Campfire, featuring live carolers and Santa for photos.
- December 18: Hanukkah Around the Campfire, with lively music from the Brooklyn Klezmer Trio Plus.
- January 8, 2025: Community Around the Campfire, a sing-along event to start the new year.
