Meet Greg, the American Sake Sommelier

Greg, the owner of Sake Secret, a Japanese sake specialty store in Long Beach, has a passion for sake that spans over two decades. Born in Arizona, Greg grew up in an ordinary American family, but his encounter with Japanese culture in high school sparked his interest in Japan. He studied Japanese at the University of Arizona and later spent a year as an exchange student at Konan University in Kobe.

Greg became a certified sake sommelier in 2019 and has traveled to over 40 prefectures in Japan, visiting sake breweries and experiencing the sake made in each area.

A Deep Passion for Sake

Greg’s passion for sake is evident in the way he talks about it. “Sake is something you want to choose after learning about the land where it was made, how it was made, and how to drink it deliciously,” he says. His store, Sake Secret, offers over 150 types of sake, and customers can enjoy sake tasting at the corner bar. Greg’s goal is to recreate the best of Japan in LA, and his store has become a haven for sake enthusiasts.

LB SAKE DAY

The second sake event, “LB SAKE DAY,” will be held in Long Beach on October 5th. The event will feature a wide variety of sake, and customers can sample sake freely in original sake cups. Last year’s event drew over 300 people, and this year’s event is expected to be even more exciting.
