Sagging skin is common as we age. Collagen and elastin decrease over time. Menopause accelerates this with a 30% collagen loss in the first five years. After that, the skin loses about 2% per year. Fortunately, effective non-surgical treatments can lift and tighten skin.
The best skin-tightening treatments boost collagen production. Recommended options include CO2 resurfacing, radiofrequency microneedling, Ultherapy, polynucleotide injections, and Sculptra, a collagen-boosting dermal filler.
The Secret Pro combination treatment is my top choice. It combines CO2 fractionated laser with radiofrequency microneedling. CO2 increases collagen and resurfaces the skin, while radiofrequency stimulates deep collagen production. This treatment is intense and requires about five to seven days for recovery due to swelling and scaling.
Ultherapy is a non-invasive ultrasound treatment that tightens the lower face and neck. It stimulates collagen and elastin without affecting the skin’s surface. This treatment is popular among women in their 40s and older for lifting various areas, including the neck and décolletage.
Polynucleotide treatments are gaining popularity for their effectiveness with minimal downtime. These natural DNA polymers enhance fibroblast activity and promote collagen and elastin production, improving skin texture and hydration. Our institute uses three forms of Philart polynucleotides to address different concerns. Typically, a series of three treatments is needed, spaced two to four weeks apart.
Subtle dermal fillers restore volume and address aging signs. My favorite is Sculptra, which stimulates collagen while adding volume. I prefer it to hyaluronic acid fillers to avoid an over-filled look.
At-home skincare also plays a vital role. A regimen designed for mature skin can enhance texture and tightness. Key components include a zinc-containing sunblock, a topical retinoid at night, vitamin C or antioxidants, peptides, and moisturizers with hyaluronic acid. Retinoids are essential for increasing collagen production. My preferred retinoid is Skinbetter Alpharet Overnight Cream, which is effective and gentle on mature skin.
Additionally, nourishing your skin internally is important. I recommend at least 5g of oral hydrolyzed marine collagen daily for improved skin hydration and elasticity. Studies show it effectively reduces wrinkles.
All these options are available at the Institute of Dermatologists. We will help you find the right solution for your skin. With the correct treatments and a good skincare routine, you can achieve a noticeable lift and glow that enhances confidence!
