Expired COVID Vaccines Don’t Fight Bird Flu
COVID-19 Vaccines Do Not Offer Protection Against Avian Flu
There is currently no evidence to suggest that COVID-19 vaccines provide any protection against avian flu, also known as bird flu. This is because the two diseases are caused by fundamentally different viruses: avian flu stems from influenza viruses A and B, while COVID-19 is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
Expired Vaccines Are Ineffective
Furthermore, utilizing expired COVID-19 vaccines to mitigate the risk of contracting avian flu is not recommended. The Spanish Association of Vaccinology (AEV) explicitly states that an expired vaccine cannot be considered valid due to the inability to guarantee its effectiveness.
Distinct viruses, Distinct Immune Responses
Experts emphasize that the specificity of vaccines is rooted in scientific principles. The president of the AEV explained that expecting a vaccine designed to combat SARS-CoV-2 to offer protection against influenza viruses – whether avian or human strains – is unsubstantiated and akin to a “magical” notion. While a COVID-19 vaccine *might* offer a very limited, theoretical stimulation of the immune system, it would not translate into meaningful protection against a different viral threat.
