Explore East Moscow Mountain Trail: Scenic Hike Near Moscow, Idaho
Explore the East Moscow Mountain Trail
The East Moscow Mountain trail offers a great outdoor experience. It is located a 35-minute drive from Moscow.
The trail begins at a simple logging road, which winds up the mountain. Hikers can enjoy impressive views of the Palouse hills during the ascent. In the afternoon, the trees provide shade, particularly in the upper trail area.
As hikers climb, they may hear birds singing and see streams flowing. One stream flows into a pool with a log that serves as a seat above the water. Look out for wildflowers and ferns along the roadside and nearby streams.
At the top, the logging road narrows into a tree-lined path. Hikers can choose the left fork to explore an abandoned picnic area surrounded by cedar trees. The right fork leads to a lookout. Here, a metal sign marks local landmarks.
On clear days, the lookout offers views of Moscow, Paradise Ridge, the Wallowas, the Blue Mountains, and the Seven Devils Range. Snowcaps may be visible on distant mountains, with clouds casting shadows on the hills below.
