Southeast, D.C. – A home in Southeast D.C. was rocked by an explosion Tuesday evening, sending one resident to the hospital for observation.
The blast occurred around 8 p.m. at a residence on Kelbergen street, according to authorities. A neighbor, who lives several blocks away, reported seeing a large plume of smoke billowing from the area. Multiple fire trucks and emergency responders rushed to the scene.
“It was a pretty intense explosion,” the neighbor said.”you could see the smoke from quite a distance.”
A police spokesperson confirmed that one resident was home at the time of the explosion. Firefighters safely evacuated the individual, who was transported to a local hospital for evaluation after inhaling smoke.
Authorities are actively searching for two suspects believed to be responsible for the incident. They are described as males between the ages of 15 and 20, dressed entirely in black. The suspects were reportedly riding a fatbike together, with the passenger wearing a hood and having a dark complexion.The Metropolitan Police Department has launched a full investigation into the explosion and is urging anyone with information to come forward. Forensic investigators are currently on scene collecting evidence.
