Export Bans Stall Production at Ukrspecsystems Drone Factory in UK

The first Ukrainian drone factory in the United Kingdom, established by the manufacturer Ukrspecsystems, has not yet begun production due to delays in obtaining technology export permits. According to reports from Ukranews and Ukrainska Pravda, the facility was inaugurated by former Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi, but remains stalled by British export restrictions.

Export Restrictions Blocking Production in the UK

Ukrspecsystems, the company behind the “Shark” drone, cannot launch operations at its British plant because of a technology export ban. According to reporting from Dev.ua and Mezha. Novyny Ukrainy, the company is awaiting the necessary permits to move the required technology and components into the UK to start the assembly process.

The delay affects the production of mid-range drones, which the company intends to manufacture locally in Britain to support Ukrainian defense needs. While the physical infrastructure of the factory has been established and officially opened, the legal requirements for the transfer of sensitive drone technology have not been met.

Ukrspecsystems has positioned itself with the ambition to become the “Apple of drones,” focusing on a scalable and integrated ecosystem of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The company’s primary product in this expansion is the Shark, a mid-range reconnaissance drone used by Ukrainian forces.
