Lady BTA Arrested for Cybercrime: A Case of Jealousy and Revenge
Lady BTA is currently being held at the Abidjan Penitentiary Center (Ppa) before Maca, awaiting her verdict. She has been accused of unlawfully possessing personal data, publishing and threatening to publish personal data, insult, and defamation by means of an information system.
Lady RAZ, the victim, received intimate images of herself from an anonymous account. She shared these images with her ex-boyfriend KB, whom she met through social networks a few months prior. After some time together, RAZ ended the relationship due to misunderstandings with KB’s new partner.
RAZ then received further threats, including screenshots of her photos on a prostitution website. The harassment not only humiliated her but also put her reputation at risk. She filed a complaint with the Platform for the Fight Against Cybercrime (Plcc).
The Plcc, in collaboration with the Lcn Digital Forensic Laboratory, conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of Lady BTA, a former friend of RAZ’s ex-partner.
Lady BTA admitted to the crime, explaining that she acted out of jealousy. After discovering that RAZ was her ex-partner’s new partner, she created a fake social media profile to impersonate the ex-girlfriend.
