The National Assembly Education Committee, led by the opposition party, passed an amendment to the Local Education Financial Grants Act that requires the central government to extend a special provision that supports nearly half of free education, including high schools.

Amid opposition from the ruling party’s People Power Party members, the Education Committee voted on an amendment led by the opposition party to extend the special effect of the central government allocating 47.5% of free high school education resources until the end of 2027, with 9 votes in favor and 6 against. If the amendment passes the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and the plenary session, the central government’s financial support for free high school education, which expires at the end of this year, will be extended for three years.
