The Challenge: Manaslu and the Pursuit of All 14 Eight-Thousanders
Spanish mountaineer Carlos Soria Fontán, aged 86, is preparing for an expedition to Manaslu, the eighth-highest mountain in the world at 8,163 meters (26,781 feet) in Nepal.this attempt coincides with the 50th anniversary of the first Spanish ascent of Manaslu, achieved on May 16, 1974, by a team led by Arcadio Delgado [Montagna.tv].Soria aims to complete his quest to summit all 14 mountains exceeding 8,000 meters – known as the “eight-thousanders.”
As of August 29, 2024, Soria has successfully summited 12 of the 14 eight-thousanders.His previous ascents, spanning decades, demonstrate remarkable endurance and determination. According to Mingma Sherpa,president of Seven summit Treks,the agency organizing the expedition,soria will arrive in Nepal on Friday,August 30,2024,and proceed to Everest Base Camp for acclimatization [EFE News].
