A new study indicates that India is experiencing an alarming increase in deaths related to extreme temperatures. ‍Over the past two⁣ decades, heatstroke ⁤has claimed⁢ 20,000 lives, ‍while⁢ cold exposure contributed ‍to another 15,000 fatalities, according to research published in ⁣the journal Temperature.

The study, led by ⁤Professor Pradeep Guin at O.P.‍ Jindal Global University (JGU) in Sonipat, highlights a notable⁣ upward ⁢trend in mortality ‌from both heatstroke and cold exposure across various Indian‌ states. The research ‌emphasizes the need for urgent ⁢action to mitigate the impact‍ of these extreme weather events.

The⁢ analysis of data from 2001 to 2019 reveals that men of⁣ working age are notably vulnerable to heatstroke. Researchers found that⁤ male deaths were three to five times higher‌ than female deaths due to ‍heatstroke, and four to ⁢seven times higher ⁣due to cold exposure.
